Throughout the year, our skin experiences changes due to the environment and weather conditions around us. In the summertime, most of us produce more oil and experience more breakouts. Meanwhile, dryness and irritation are some of the most common winter skincare complaints. So, how do we combat these external factors that can dramatically change our skin? Not only can we switch up some of our skincare products, but we can also complete in-office treatments. Moxi laser treatments can help your overall skin health, tone, and texture. I will explain why this is one of our favorite treatments at Atalo!

Seasonal skin struggles are common for most patients. As a way to minimize the damage caused by such changes, its best to understand what those changes may be and act proactively to avoid them becoming bigger problems. Some of the most common season skin challenges include the following:
Moxi is a non-ablative, fractional laser designed to treat signs of aging, sun damage, and improve the overall tone and texture of the skin. It uses a low-energy wavelength to target below the skin’s surface, stimulating collagen production and promoting cell turnover.
Moxi laser treatments are suitable for all skin types and intensity of the treatment can be customized to meet your individual needs. It typically requires minimal recovery time and is safe to use year-round, making it an extremely versatile treatment.
Prior to your moxi session, your skin is numbed for one hour. The numbing is then cleansed off the face and treatment begins. The treatment itself is spicy for some patients, while a lot of heat penetrates the skin’s surface. The treatment is rather quick, though, lasting about 5-6 minutes for the face.
Post-treatment, expect to be hot or warm for a few hours and then a few dark spots will begin to pop up. These dark spots or MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) are essentially the dead skin cells coming up to the surface. These spots will flake off over a few days post treatment, and you will be left with fresh, glowing skin.
Moxi laser treatments year-round can help not only keep your skin healthy at its prime but can also tackle some of the seasonal challenges most of us experience, providing continual improvement throughout the year. In the winter most patients feel like their skin is dry and dull, lacking hydration and seeking rejuvenation. Moxi can do just that- it promotes cell turnover which helps brighten and refresh the skin.
During the spring and summer months, some of the most common skin complaints include dark spots appearing, fine lines having more noticeability, and feeling like sun damage is accumulating. Moxi can also be used during this time of the year to lessen the dark spots and increase collagen production, which helps diminish fine lines and wrinkles. Lastly, Moxi can help in the fall months by boosting the natural glow and evening out the skin tone. Fall is one of the best times to clean up some of the sun damage from the warmer months and prepare the skin for colder months to come.
Moxi is considered safe for year-round use, including during the summer months, due to its gentle, non-ablative properties. Studies and expert guidelines suggest that, when used properly, Moxi’s low-energy fractional technology poses minimal risk of hyperpigmentation or other complications, even on darker skin tones. It is essential to protect the treated skin from sun exposure post-treatment by using broad-spectrum sunscreen, as sun sensitivity can be heightened. This treatment, therefore, can be completed in the summer, but it is imperative to try to limit direct sun exposure and use adequate sun protection. When proper precautions are taken, the Moxi laser is safe for year-round use which makes it a highly versatile option for ongoing skin rejuvenation.
Moxi is best completed in a series of three treatments, every 4-6 weeks. Once your initial series is completed maintenance sessions are recommended to be done twice per year. As mentioned previously, these sessions can be completed at any time of the year. Our personal favorite time to complete the series of treatments is beginning in the fall, once vacations and a majority of the sun exposure you experience is completed.
The maintenance sessions may then be completed early spring and late fall the following year. All of our in office treatments are best done in combination with an at home medical grade skincare routine. We recommend having an in office consultation with our providers to discuss what skincare products are best for you!
Consistent care with treatments like Moxi can help achieve glowing, healthy skin no matter the season.
