It truly is no surprise to see the growing popularity of laser devices- lasers treatments are powerful and effective options to address skin concerns such as aging skin, pigmentation, and fine lines! There are many laser devices on the market which can make it very overwhelming when making a decision on the best treatment for you. To simplify the process, I am breaking it down here!

First, let’s address the numerous reasons why someone may seek out a laser treatment. The most popular reason lasers are desired is for the treatment of hyperpigmentation, sun damage, melasma, and age spots. As someone who is prone to sun spots and freckles, I do a variety of laser treatments in my skin 4-6 times a year! The second most common reason lasers are desired is for the treatment of active acne and acne scars. Acne can be extremely stubborn to treat and often needs a combination approach between facials, lasers, skincare products, and lifestyle modification. Other common reasons lasers seen more in individuals 50+ years of age are wrinkles and texture issues. There are not many conditions that lasers can’t tackle!
In our practice, we have a variety of laser and light based options including: BroadBand Light (BBL) Hero, Moxi, Halo, and Contour TRL.
BBL Hero is a completely non ablative light based treatment used to target superficial brown and red pigment. The best part of BBL is that is requires no social downtime since there is no peeling involved. It is best for lighter skin types but well trained and experienced providers can very safely use BBL on darker skin types. At Atalo Aesthetics, our providers go through advanced training every year to ensure we can treat all skin types!
Moxi (the before and after seen below) is a fractional, non ablative laser. It is a light resurfacing laser used to target deeper pigment and stimulate collagen to improve texture and pore size. There is 5-7 days of social downtime involved. While there is no peeling, there are visible MENDs (microscopic epithelial necrotic debris) which form within 24 hours. These can take 5-7 days to exfoliate off. Moxi is ideal for all skin types and ages.
Halo is a hybrid fractional laser that is similar to Moxi but stronger, can penetrate deeper in the skin. It allows for more customizable settings. Halo requires 7-10 days of social downtime since the MENDs are more noticeable and take longer to exfoliate off.
Contour TRL is a fully resurfacing laser that has versatility to be used for light laser peels or extremely deep ablation. Contour TRL is most commonly used for deep ablation as it is the best treatment option for deep wrinkles, folds, and significant texture issues. At Atalo Aesthetics we commonly use Contour TRL for perioral lip lines (aka “smoker’s lines” or “lipstick lines”) and for periorbital rejuvenation (lower and upper eyelid tightening). Expect more downtime with this treatment due to it being a more aggressive laser.
The most ideal candidates for lasers are those who have realistic expectations, can follow pre and post care instructions, and are using medical grade skincare products at home. Interested in a laser, but currently are not on a skincare routine? I suggest to seek out a provider to establish a skincare routine first. There are certain contraindications to all lasers such as pregnancy, tanned skin, and certain skin conditions in the treatment area such as eczema.
If you are interested in a laser treatment, I would suggest to first determine what your goals are, your budget, and how much downtime you have. By providing this information to a trained provider, they can work with you to plan a schedule for your laser treatments.
At Atalo Aesthetics, our consultations are an in-depth 40 minute appointment. Photos of your skin will be taken with our Canfield Visia Facial Analysis Camera and then our providers will sit down with you to create customized treatment plans within your budget to help reach your goals. If you’re in the tri-state area, we’d love to help you!
