Maximizing Skin Treatments with PRP

Maximizing Skin Treatments with PRP

Posted: March 16, 2026

Platelet-Rich plasma (PRP) is quite the buzzword in aesthetic medicine. PRP is not just a trend; it is a supercharged regenerative tool.  Many patients come in curious about what can be treated with PRP and if it can be added on to treatments they are considering.  The good news is that PRP can be used alone or in combination with other treatments. Results are best with PRP when it is strategically paired with other in-office treatments.  In this blog, we will cover what PRP injections are, which treatments can utilize PRP as an add-on, and how to best maximize PRP results.

What Is PRP and How Do PRP Injections Work?

Platelet-Rich Plasma is derived from a patient’s own blood through a simple blood draw and centrifugation process.  This leads to a serum concentrated with platelets and growth factors. PRP can either be used topically or injected.  When injected, we are using either needles or a cannula to get the PRP under the skin deeper. When used topically, PRP is applied to the skin after a treatment such as microneedling or ablative laser, where a controlled injury was performed, allowing the PRP to go into the small wounds and penetrate into the skin.  PRP helps stimulate collagen and elastin, improves tissue repair and regeneration, and helps support hair follicle health. Think of PRP as a natural amplifier of healing and results– kind of like the cherry on top to better, faster results.

What Can Be Treated With PRP Injections?

PRP injections are commonly used in the scalp, under eyes and other areas of the face.  If patients are struggling with hair loss and hair thinning, PRP can be injected to help stimulate hair growth and support healthy hair follicles.  When used in the under eye area, we are able to address crepey skin and discoloration.  It can also be injected into acne scarring on the face to help improve the appearance of scars. PRP is a great option for patients seeking natural regeneration.  It is important to remember that PRP improves skin quality and not volume.  If you are interested in a more regenerative way to improve volume. Then you may want to consider ezGel PRF.

What Treatments Can I Add PRP To?

PRP Treatment With Microneedling

Microneedling is a treatment that helps stimulate collagen on its own.  It creates microchannels into the skin. When PRP is used topically during this treatment, these microchannels enhance PRP absorption.  PRP and microneedling work synergistically with one another by combining collagen induction with added growth factors.  Benefits of microneedling with PRP include improved tone and texture, faster healing and an enhanced glow.  This is an ideal treatment for those struggling with acne scars, fine lines, and early skin aging.

PRP Treatment With Halo

Fractional laser treatments like Halo can also benefit from adding on PRP. Halo helps target deeper sun damage and deeper collagen stimulation.  PRP complements this by adding in growth factors that support a faster recovery, reduces inflammation and enhanced collagen remodeling.  We often recommend this pair to help maximize long-term skin quality improvements and to help patients get more out of their investment.

PRP Injections for Under Eyes

Patients concerned with crepey texture, thin skin, and mild discoloration to the undereye can also benefit from PRP injections.  The focus of PRP for undereye rejuvenation is to improve skin quality. This differs from filler which adds volume to an area but does not address skin concerns.  Ideal candidates for PRP undereye treatments are those patients seeking a subtle natural improvement or those who may not be good filler candidates.  Typically, we recommend a series of three PRP undereye treatments spaced approximately four weeks apart for best results, followed by a maintenance treatment every 9-12 months.

PRP Treatment for Hair Loss

Another common area for PRP injection is the scalp.  PRP directly supports hair follicle health. It helps by providing growth factors, as well as stimulating angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels) which helps bring more nutrients to the scalp.  This can be used to address early hair thinning, androgenic hair loss or postpartum shedding.  Here at Atalo, our hair restoration protocol utilizes multiple strategies for the best outcome. This protocol includes microneedling of the scalp, PRP injections as well as Plated Hair serum.  Combined treatments and consistency provide the best outcomes.

How Can I Maximize My PRP Results?

If you are looking to maximize your PRP results, it is important to choose the right combination of treatments to reach your goals. That is why a consultation with one of our experienced providers is crucial to ensure you select treatments that are right for your skin and your goals.

Our in-office consultations allow our providers to look at your skin through our VISIA Analysis to ensure we make the best recommendations for you. It is also important to make sure you are following all pre- and post-care treatment instructions.

As mentioned before, consistency yields the best results.  Most of these treatments mentioned above are not one-time treatments.  We recommend treatments in a series because that is what research shows provides the best results.  You can also support your skin health with medical-grade skincare.

Is PRP Better as an Add-On or a Standalone Treatment?

When deciding whether or not to use PRP as an add-on or standalone treatment, it is important to think about what your concern is and what you are targeting.  PRP as a standalone option is great for undereye rejuvenation for a subtle, gradual improvement. When considering halo, microneedling or hair restoration, adding on PRP enhances outcomes, results in better healing and more noticeable results.  It is important to remember that PRP does not replace these treatments but enhances them.

Who Is a Good Candidate for PRP Add-Ons?

Ideal candidates for PRP add-ons are already investing in advanced aesthetics treatments at the office but looking to naturally boost their results.  If you are concerned about skin quality (whether that be wrinkles, fine lines, or scarring) or hair health, PRP treatments are a good option.

The process of obtaining PRP involves using the patient’s own blood. There could be certain instances where a patient may not be a good candidate simply based on their personal health history or medications. These are discussed with our providers during the consultation process.
