MedSpa Expert’s Facial Botox Do’s and Don’ts

May 1, 2023

Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. When administered correctly, it can give you a refreshed, more youthful look. However, there are some important “dos” and “don’ts” that you should be aware of before getting facial Botox treatments. In this article, we’ll answer some common questions about Botox and give you some tips on how to get the best results.

It’s important to note that all of this applies to Dysport injections as well. Dysport is another brand of neuromodulator, or neurotoxin, just like Botox. Click here to read about the difference between the two in one of our previous blogs!

Can you still make facial expressions with Botox?

Facial Botox has been a popular cosmetic treatment for decades. It continues to be one of the most sought-after procedures in the field of aesthetics. However, many people are still apprehensive about getting Botox injections because of the misconception that it will completely freeze their face, making it impossible to express themselves naturally.

This is far from the truth. Botox is a muscle relaxant that works by blocking the nerve signals that cause your facial muscles to contract. This results in a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It does not paralyze your face or completely prevent you from making facial expressions.

In fact, when administered correctly by a qualified and experienced practitioner, facial Botox should allow you to make natural-looking facial expressions while still reducing the appearance of wrinkles. The key to achieving optimal results lies in the skill and expertise of the practitioner, who must know exactly where to inject the Botox in your face and in what quantity to ensure that your face retains its natural movements and expressions.

If you are considering facial Botox, it is important to choose a qualified practitioner who has the expertise and experience to deliver optimal results. With the right technique and dosage, Botox can help you achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance while still allowing you to make natural facial expressions. Don’t let misconceptions hold you back from trying this safe and effective treatment. Here at Atalo Aesthetics, we pride ourselves on natural results only!

Should you get a facial before or after Botox?

It is generally recommended that you avoid getting facials for 14 days after receiving Botox injections to avoid irritation in the treated areas, which can negatively affect the results of your Botox treatment. Additionally, you should avoid excessively touching or rubbing the treated areas for 48 hours after your Botox injections.  Your normal skincare and makeup routine is fine to perform.

Where can you get facial Botox?

Botox can be injected into a variety of areas in the face, one of the most common areas to receive Botox injections is the forehead. As we age, the muscles in our forehead tend to contract, causing wrinkles to form across our forehead. Botox can relax these muscles, reducing the appearance of these wrinkles and giving you a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Botox can also be used to target wrinkles around the eyes, commonly known as crow’s feet. These wrinkles are caused by the repeated movement of the muscles around the eyes when we smile or squint. Botox injections can help relax these muscles, softening the appearance of these wrinkles and providing a more refreshed look by making the eyes appear more open.

A third commonly treated area where Botox can be effective is the area between the eyebrows, often referred to as the “11s”. These vertical lines can make you look angry or tired even when you’re not. By relaxing the muscles between the eyebrows with Botox injections, you can achieve a more relaxed and approachable appearance.

Botox can be injected into muscles in the lower half of the face but only by an expert medical provider with advanced training in these areas.  If done incorrectly, Botox in the lower face can affect the smile. Commonly treated areas include perioral lines or “lipstick”/ “smokers” lines, gummy smiles, downturned corners of the mouth, and the masseters for TMJ.

Facial Botox is a versatile treatment that can be used to target a variety of areas on the face. Whether you’re looking to smooth out wrinkles on your forehead or reduce the appearance of crow’s feet around your eyes, Botox can provide a safe and effective solution.

Why would you get Botox injected in your chin?

Botox can be used to treat a variety of concerns in the chin area, including dimpling, asymmetry, and the appearance of a “peach pit” chin. It can also be used to reduce the appearance of a “witch’s chin,” which is caused by overactive muscles in the chin area. Botox injections in the chin area can help to smooth out the skin and give you a more youthful appearance.  Some patients may benefit from combining Botox and dermal fillers in the chin for an enhanced result.

Will Botox lift my eyes?

Botox injections can be used to lift the eyebrows and create a more youthful, alert appearance. However, the extent to which Botox can lift your eyes will depend on a variety of factors, including the placement and amount of the injections, your natural anatomy, and genetics. In some cases, additional treatments such as fillers, Sculptra, or surgery may be necessary to achieve the desired results. Your suitability for this can be assessed by one of our medical injectors at your consultation.

Will Botox make me look, fresher?

When administered correctly, facial Botox can give you a refreshed, more youthful appearance. It can smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and frown lines, and even give your eyebrows a lift. However, it is important to remember that Botox is not a magic solution for all of your aging concerns. It is best used in conjunction with a comprehensive skincare routine and healthy lifestyle habits. In addition, optimal results can be achieved when starting Botox at a younger age.  Botox has the ability to prevent lines and wrinkles from forming.  When lines have been established for 40-50+ years in the skin, it is much more difficult to achieve a smoother look.

What face areas are best to get Botox?

The best areas to get Botox will depend on your individual concerns and goals. However, some of the most popular areas for Botox injections include the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet around the eyes. It can also be used to treat other areas of the face, such as the chin, jawline, and neck. During your consultation, your provider will evaluate your skin and help you determine which areas would benefit from Botox treatment.

Dos and Don’ts of Getting Facial Botox Treatments

Now that you have a better understanding of some common questions surrounding Botox treatments, here are some “dos” and “don’ts” to keep in mind to help you get the best results from your treatment:

Do: Choose a qualified provider

When it comes to getting Botox injections, it is essential to choose a qualified provider who has extensive experience administering Botox. At Atalo Aesthetics, our team of expert providers has years of experience performing Botox injections, and we always prioritize your safety and satisfaction. Our team is constantly continuing their education by attending nationally certified training annually.  In addition, our team includes one national trainer for Galderma, Kaitlyn Hunter, a board-certified Nurse Practitioner.  Since 2018, she has been traveling monthly to other offices to train newer injectors on FDA-approved products and treatment areas. Feel free to ask us for evidence of qualifications and any before and after pictures of our work, this can help to put your mind at ease before your treatment.

Do: Prepare for your treatment

Before your facial Botox treatment, it is important to prepare your skin properly. Avoid taking blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, for at least a week before your treatment. This will help to minimize bruising and swelling after the injections. Additionally, make sure to follow any other pre-treatment instructions provided by your provider.

Do: Schedule a follow-up appointment

Most Botox treatments last for around 3-4 months, after which the effects will start to wear off. To maintain your results, it is important to schedule a follow-up appointment with your provider. They can evaluate your skin and recommend a treatment plan to help you achieve the best possible results.

Don’t: Go overboard

While Botox can provide excellent results, it is important not to go overboard with the injections. Too much Botox can leave you with a frozen or unnatural appearance, which is not the goal of the treatment. A skilled provider will know how to administer the right amount of Botox to achieve a natural-looking result.

Don’t: Expect immediate results

While Botox is a powerful treatment, it is not a magic solution. It can take several days or even two weeks to see the full effects of your treatment. Be patient and give your skin time to heal and adjust.
