Morning Workout Tips

If you commonly like to workout in the first part of your day, I suggest not washing your face before you work out. Post-workout or once you get home, simply go through your regular morning skincare routine. Depending on your skin type, it may be excessive to wash your face before and after your workout, and then a third time at night.

The amount of sweat your skin produces will determine the products you need to use on your skin when you wash your face. If you sweat a lot, I recommend using lighter, water-based products such as those with Hyaluronic Acid. Too much product or too thick of a product can congest your skin and pores.

When you sweat, there’s a lot of heat that comes off of the skin and it actually helps to open up your pores. So the last thing you want to do is bog down your pores with a lot of heavy skincare products or makeup.

Afternoon Workout Tips

Hitting the gym after work? I would suggest removing your makeup with a makeup remover wipe when you get to the gym. Here again, it is not necessary to wash and moisturize before your workout. You do, however, want to get all that makeup off from the day so that your skin is nice and clean for your workout.

Again, working out opens up your pores; you want to avoid your entire days’ worth of makeup seeping into those open pores. This is going to cause congestion, blackheads, and those dreaded acne breakouts.

When you get home, go ahead and start your PM skincare routine. I personally prefer to put on a lot of my products closer to nighttime so my skin can absorb them overnight.

If you’re not going straight home, I would suggest for you to grab a toner pad and wipe down your face, neck, and even chest or back if you’re acne-prone. This will help to at least get that sweat off your skin so that it doesn’t congest your pores. If you have dry or sensitive skin, you can apply a light moisturizer afterwards. Then, once you get home, follow your nightly skincare routine.

Evening Workout Tips

If you like working out at night, your routine will be very similar to those who work out in the afternoon. The most important step is to remove your makeup prior to working out.  Once you’re home, go ahead and start your full PM skincare routine.

Saving the bulk of your skincare till closer to bedtime will allow those nutrients and antioxidants to work their magic overnight.

You Can Have it All

You don’t have to sacrifice great skin for a great workout. It’s time to say goodbye to those post-sweat session breakouts and clogged pores. Follow some of my workout skincare tips above and you’ll be well on your way to a healthy, clearer complexion.

If you’re unsure about which products are working, let your skin guide you. Does your skin seem oily or congested? Opt for lighter products.  Is it dry or sensitive? Then you may need a thicker moisturizer or one that’s long-acting.
