The benefits of aloe vera for your skin

Everyone has heard how good aloe vera gel can be for your sunburn. It cools the skin and helps reduce the inflammation, stinging, and itching associated with mild burns. But did you know that it can also:

  • Form new cells
  • Repair your skin
  • Relieve pain
  • Soothe irritation and inflammation like eczema and psoriasis

Ultimate moisturizer for your skin

Aloe vera is a great moisturizer for sensitive and oily skin types. This is because it’s actually made of mostly water, so it helps hydrate without leaving that greasy, icky residue. Plus, it locks in moisture, acting as a glue for the top layer of your skin cells. Thus, it holds in the moisture to create a more smooth and soft finish to your skin. This is true for both your face and your hands!

Anti-acne properties

Did you know that aloe can help fight against acne? Aloe vera is an antibacterial product that contains salicylic acid, which helps exfoliate the skin and unclog pores. Plus, as an added bonus, its anti-inflammatory properties help reduce those dreaded oil waves.

Smooth signs of aging

If you’re trying to slow the signs of aging, aloe vera can be your best friend. Aloe produces a lot of collagen and elastin fibers, which work together to decrease and prevent wrinkles. In addition to that, there are two key ingredients that help your skin stay soft and bright:

  • Zinc Acts as an astringent in your skin to tighten pores
  • Vitamins C and EProtects your skin against free radicals

Finding the right aloe vera for your skin

At this point, most people would wonder where to start when looking for the best aloe products out there. As a licensed cosmetologist and esthetician, I recommend looking for aloe in its purest form, or at the very least, avoiding anything that has alcohol, fragrance, dyes (aloe vera should be clear, not green!), natural oils, or essential oils.
