Navigating skincare treatments during pregnancy or while breastfeeding can be overwhelming, especially with the abundance of conflicting information online or on social media platforms. When considering skincare treatments, the most important aspect is safety. In this blog, we will dive into the safest options for you and your baby!

As much as I wish I could say the sky is the limit when it comes to getting treatments while pregnant, most of us already know this is not true. Unfortunately, there are many restrictions when it comes to the safety of aesthetic treatments in pregnant women because of the FDA. There are no FDA studies to show the safety of these treatments because the FDA would never even approve these suggested studies. At Atalo Aesthetics, pregnant women cannot do any of the services offered by our Nurse Practitioners- injectables, lasers, peels, or microneedling. However, pregnant women can do many, if not all, of the services our estheticians offer (which is still plenty)!
At Atalo Aesthetics, our patients who are currently breastfeeding have to follow the same guidelines as our pregnant patients. As the FDA doesn’t research the safety of aesthetic treatments on pregnant women, they also do not research the safety of aesthetic treatments in women who are breastfeeding.
At Atalo Aesthetics, we offer a variety of facials to best take care of whatever skin concerns you are tackling.
By modifying a couple of steps, HydraFacials can safely be done on pregnant women. HydraFacials are like sending your face through a car wash so they’re absolutely a must try! At Atalo Aesthetics, we offer 3 different types of HydraFacials. Based on your skin needs and budget, an esthetician can help you determine which one is best for you.
Dermaplane is one of the most underrated facial options! By simply removing dead skin and peach fuzz, an instant glow is achieved. Dermaplane facials are one of the best options for combating textured skin.
Any pregnant woman struggling with acne needs to look into Face Reality. Face Reality is THE most effective skincare system at combating all types of acne. There are a few products that cannot be used on a pregnant woman but majority of the line is a go!
Do you thoroughly enjoy an easy morning routine? If you are a minimalist and do not enjoy spending endless time on your skincare in the morning, then there are a few lash and brow services worth checking out!
Lash tints and/or brow tints are an easy way to create fuller, darker-looking brows and lashes. If you have lighter colored hair or just feel like the wispy tips of your hair are lighter, simply tinting the hair with a dye solution creates a beautiful look.
If you naturally have fluffy, bushy brows, a simple brow wax is a quick treatment that can make you feel put together in minutes.
If you are looking to skip mascara in the morning or simply just want longer, fuller looking lashes, a lash lift and tint is the service to book! Think of this as a lash curler for your skin that lasts 4-6 weeks. By curling the lashes (and maybe tinting them), the lashes instantly appear longer!
Brow laminations (seen here) have become extremely popular over the past couple of years as they are a non-invasive alternative to microblading. These involve a perm solution that helps shape your brow hairs! If you wake up and often apply brow gel to your brow hairs, a brow lamination is a must-try service!
See lots of lash and brow before-and-afters, like this one, on our Instagram!
*Please note that personal beliefs on the safety of tinting and perming solutions vary. The perming and tinting solutions used in these treatments are the same or similar to products used in hair salons. If you’re ever unsure which treatments to do, please consult your doctor.*
Throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding, your skin concerns may change multiple times. Perhaps it begins with acne in the first or second trimester, then evolves into melasma. Or maybe it is just persistent, inflammatory acne throughout the entire time. Regardless, it is important to understand the skin will change as hormone levels change. My biggest piece of advice- be patient and stay consistent with your skincare routine!
At Atalo Aesthetics, our providers are always here to offer guidance throughout these skin changes. Typically, adjustments in skincare products and types of facials will manage these pesky skin changes. Alison, one of our estheticians, even talked through her own pregnancy journey with skincare last year—click here to watch it!
Regardless of the stage of life you are currently in, Atalo Aesthetics stays committed to safety and personalized care at every life stage. Our providers offer in-depth consultations to thoroughly discuss your skincare goals and curate a customized skincare plan tailored to your budget. If you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, feel free to schedule a consultation! This gives you a jumpstart by allowing you to know the exact plan once you are able to resume treatments. Also, remember, facials and medical-grade skincare products at home are a highly effective treatment plan. Your skin will still be pampered and adequately exposed to high-quality skincare ingredients to maintain glowy, healthy skin.
