What is Botox?
Botox & Dysport are both considered neuromodulators that are produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. We offer two different brands: Botox® and Dysport®.

Botox and Dysport are both products injected into facial muscles to relax movement. Botox and Dysport are made by two different companies, but overall they have been created to do the same thing. Botox and Dysport can be compared just like Coke and Pepsi or AT&T and Verizon.
Botox is created by a company called Allergan. When it is injected, an effect usually takes place within a week. It takes two weeks for full effect.
Dysport is created by a company called Galderma. When injected, an effect usually takes place within a few days. It takes ten days for a full effect. Due to the quick onset and longer duration, Dysport is a patient favorite in our office.
A single treatment is less than 30 minutes and requires no downtime. Botox and Dysport last between 3-6 months, so you will need maintenance treatments every few months. Our experts will discuss lifestyle factors and develop a maintenance plan for you. We may also recommend combination therapy with other popular aesthetic procedures to further enhance your outcome.
There is no pre-care required.
For a full post-treatment plan, please refer to your patient portal (which you gain access to after your initial appointment). A quick run-down of post-care includes:
- Avoid touching, applying pressure, or massaging the treated area post-treatment
- Don’t lie down or lean forward 4-6 hours post-treatment
- Avoid exercising for 4-6 hours post-treatment
In most cases, you are able to return to work, apply makeup lightly, and resume most of your activities immediately.
Improvement of lines is noticeable after 2-3 days, and the peak effect is reached in 7-14 days. Botox and Dysport are not permanent and will need maintenance treatments every 3-6 months.

- Bruising (Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications may increase the risk; discontinue 10 days prior to decrease bruising)
- Minimal redness and swelling
- Temporary eyelid drooping (ptosis)*
* This can be minimized by not touching/rubbing the site of injection and maintaining an upright position post-injection.
