What are the different Chemical Peels?

There are a variety of chemical peels, each targeting different levels of the skin as well. The type of chemical peel recommended may be based on your skincare routine, how many peels have you had before, and the type of symptoms you are experiencing.

Chemical Peels are a blend of exfoliants, retinol, and other agents to safely remove the damaged outer layer of skin and promote collagen remodeling, which creates younger-looking skin.

Vi Peels are our superficial and medium-depth peels that penetrate further into the skin for better results.

FAQs

The face, neck, and chest are the most common areas peels are applied.  However, peels can also be applied to other body areas such as the back, shoulders, arms, hands, etc.

The Vi Peel application process is very simple and typically takes 5-10 minutes.   All appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes to ensure there is plenty of time to review post-care instructions.

Peeling typically starts 24-48 hours after the peel application.  The face peels faster than body areas.  Peeling typically starts in the peri-oral area, peeling outward towards the hairline.

If Vi Peels are the only medical-grade treatment completed throughout the year, 3-4 peels are recommended.  Most patients incorporate peels with our other medical-grade treatments which can adjust the recommended amount of peels.

There is no pre-care required.

For a full post-treatment plan, please refer to your patient portal. A quick run-down of post-care includes:

  • Do not use a Clarisonic Brush until the peeling process is complete (usually 6-7 days).
  • Do NOT force or peel the skin, as it can cause scarring. You can trim with a small pair of scissors.
  • Avoid tanning beds and direct sunlight exposure for 7-14 days.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy sweating for at least 72 hours following the peel

After receiving the peel treatment in our office, clients are given a take-home kit with all the necessary products for post-care. The cost of the kit is included in the cost of the peel, and no additional products will need to be purchased. Instructions include:

  • Wash your face before using one of the provided towelettes on days 1 and 2.
  • Apply provided SPF at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Apply provided Post Peel Protectant at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bedtime.

The peeling process can vary between 5-10 days, all depending on your skin type.  As the skin is peeling, healthy skin will become visible on the surface.  Most patients continue to see improvement in their skin weeks to months after a peel, as collagen stimulation is still occurring.

For more information, please see the “Vi Peel consent form” in the box to the right. Our licensed skincare experts will work with you to minimize discomfort and/or side effects.

  • Temporary burning, stinging, redness, heat, or tightness during the procedure and for the following week
  • Areas of pigmentation (sun spots, freckles, etc.) may appear darker for the first day or two post-treatment

Most people are able to do chemical peels, however, some clients may not be eligible if they:

  • Are pregnant or lactating
  • Have open cuts, lesions, cold sores, or warts in the treatment area
  • Have Aspirin, Hydroquinone, or phenol allergies
  • Are sunburned or have had significant sun exposure in the last 2 days
  • Have used Accutane within the last 3 months
  • Have had radiation, surgery, or cryosurgery in the last 6 weeks
