What is dermal filler?

Common treatment areas include temples, cheeks, tear troughs, nasolabial folds, lips, marionette lines, chin, and jawline. Our goal is to create a comfortable experience during the injection process. Dermal fillers are manufactured with lidocaine and our injectors use additional lidocaine in the office.

Depending on the number of areas being treated in one injection session, the appointment time can vary between 30-60 minutes. Dermal filler is temporary, meaning most people need maintenance treatments every 6- 12 months. Most filler is FDA-approved to last one year, however, results cannot be guaranteed for one year. Longevity can vary from person to person due to genetics, metabolism, exercise routine, etc. Combination therapy with other popular aesthetic procedures to further enhance your outcome may be recommended at your appointment.

1. That they’re toxic and harmful: False! They are made of Hyaluronic Acid, a product our body makes naturally that gives us volume and keeps our skin hydrated. Unfortunately, we lose Hyaluronic Acid as we age, which leads to sagging skin, a loss of plump facial fat, and sunken facial features.
2. You don’t see the effects immediately: False! Unlike Botox/Dysport, which takes 1-2 weeks to see the full effect, the effects of filler are seen immediately
3. They can only be injected into the cheeks: False! There are many types of dermal filler, allowing injectors to pick the best product for specific locations. The most common uses are in the lips, cheeks, and the lines around the mouth (called NasoLabial Folds or Marionette Lines).
4. Your face will look puffy or stiff: False! Dermal Fillers can be injected gradually so results are subtly obtained. Our injectors typically recommend starting with 2-3 syringes and adding more as desired. Our goal is always to achieve a natural look.

Pre-care: avoid alcohol for 48 hours to decrease the risk of bruising.

• Do not touch the treatment area
• Avoid makeup application for 4 hours post-treatment

While it is possible for dermal fillers to migrate, it is very unlikely that it would happen. The best way to ensure this does not happen is to follow aftercare instructions, get dermal filler treatments from a provider you trust, and to contact your injector if you are concerned about migration post-treatment!
