What is waxing?

Waxing is a semi-permanent hair removal option that removes the entire hair from the follicle. If done consistently, hair will grow back slower, finer, and sparser.

Warm wax is applied to the area, with a cloth or paper strip pressed and adhered to the wax. The strip is then quickly removed, pulling the wax and hair with it. We do carry a gentle wax for people with more sensitive skin.

Why waxing?

  • Easy hair removal
  • Silky-smooth legs for up to 6 weeks
  • No razor cuts
  • You will be able to see a noticeable difference immediately following treatment.

This method of hair removal is beneficial for a lot of individuals, especially those that are not interested in permanent hair removal. Hair is required to be grown out between treatments to ensure the hair is accurately removed from the skin.

FAQs

Waxing can be done almost anywhere, but the most common treatment areas include:

  • Eyebrows, nose, lips, ears, chin, sideburns
  • Arms and legs

Depending on the area to be treated, it can take:

  • Brows, lips, chin, nose – less than 5 minutes
  • Arms and legs – 30 minutes

It requires maintenance based on how fast your hair grows (usually every 4-6 weeks). To compensate for the frequency of maintenance, this typically means a lower cost (you basically pay per wax).

This is also a pretty tolerable treatment. It simply removes the hair from the follicle, so it is a temporary hair removal solution.

  • Ingrown hairs
  • Stubble
  • Bumps
  • Itching

Do not shave for 2 weeks prior to hair removal. This will ensure the wax and strip have enough hair to adhere to for removal. It is also recommended that you avoid sun exposure for 48 hours before and after your wax.

For a full post-treatment plan, please refer to your patient portal. A quick run-down of post-care includes:

  • Avoid aggressive exfoliation, waxing, and Retin-A products for one week after treatment.
  • Wear SPF 30+ for the first 2 weeks post-treatment (this is a MUST).
  • Refrain from tanning for 48 hours.

Waxing vs shaving for hair removal comes down to personal preference! Shaving can be affordable, easy at-home method for hair removal. However, it can lead to razor bumps, small cuts, and other disadvantages. Waxing removes the hair from the root and it can take longer to grow back in, which is a huge benefit, reducing the amount of time you have to spend on unwanted hair removal. Waxing typically only has to be done once every few weeks.

No! As your hair grows back in after you’ve been waxed, it may feel coarser to you while the hair is still short. However, as your hair continues to grow out, it grows back normally. For some people, after waxing, the hair even grows back thinner!

Certain medications and topical treatments from your dermatologist can cause reactions with waxing. Retinol can make thinner skin around your eyebrows more sensitive. We recommend waiting a few days after your appointment to resume the use of your retinol products.

Absolutely not! Waxing services are available for everyone, even for mature skin. We are very gentle with all skin types and will always provide quality care during your waxing appointment to ensure that you are comfortable and leave feeling refreshed.
